When do you pump if you're EBF??

Do you pump "the other boob" during or after feeding? Do you pump in between feeding sessions? TIA!

Re: When do you pump if you're EBF??

  • I try to pump once a day or once every two days, just to build up a little supply. I usually pump 2-3oz 1 hour after a normal feeding. That way there is something there, but it has time to replenish itself by the time he's ready to eat again :) He eats every 2-3 hours. HTH

  • I did it right after feeding for the first couple weeks, but that was mostly to up my supply and to give me a little to use as supplement since she wasn't gaining fast enough and my pedi had me feed her the extra ounce by bottle. I would only get 1-2 ounces if I did it right after a feeding.

Now I am feeding her on both sides at every feeding and she is getting way fuller from the breast, so I wait until about an hour after feeding if I can and pump then for storage purposes. I definitely get the most at night and in the early mornings (average 4 ounces), so I try to pump then. 2-3 times a day.

    HTH!

  • When he was a newborn, I handed him to DH and pumped immediately after feedings to up my supply. Now I pump about two hours after he goes to bed and immediately after his morning feeding (and at work, of course). On the weekends, I also pump anytime I still feel particularly full after a feeding. He's too distracted to eat well during the day, but I don't want my supply to tank.
  • Every morning after I feed him and every night around 9pm. I started the 9pm pumping when he started sleeping 7+ hours at night.
