Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Formula amount?

How much formula is/was your DC taking at 2-3 weeks?  We have been giving him 2 ounces about every 2 hours or so...when should we bump it up to more?  Sometimes, if after the 2 ounces, he is still hungry - we will give him a little more...but I just don't wanna overfeed him.  If he's not hungry, he wouldn't take it, though, right?  Thanks - I'm a 1st timer, if you can't tell :)

  • We fed DD 2 oz every 3-4 hours at that point.  I'm not sure when she started with 3 oz, but we gave her 4 one time and she spit it up.  Now she eats 4 oz all the time.  We also give her more if she acts like she is still hungry and just watch her cuz she will spit up if she gets too much.

  • DD2 had 3 oz every 3-3.5 hrs.  She moved to 4oz at one month old (she was 8lb 12oz then).  I moved her up b/c she was consistently finishing her bottles leaving nothing left.

  • I always bumped him up an ounce whenever he consistently finished a bottle quickly and still seemed unsatisfied. I think he was around your baby's age when I moved him up to 3. By a month he was taking 4 oz, and was up to 6 oz by 2 months. He's now 3 months and takes 7. I've always just kind of followed his lead which has worked well. If he's letting you know that he's still hungry, I would definitely give him more.
