Parenting after a Loss

Silly question...

Do you count "one month old" as 4 weeks or the same date but the next month? ?In other words, Kiran was born on 12/01...he'll be four weeks on Monday but will he not be one month old until 01/01? ?If I keep counting four weeks as a month he'll have 8 weeks between being 11 months old and one year old! ?:-)

Re: Silly question...

  • Not silly at all I was wondering the same thing.

    Kerri

  • Not silly at all!  I wonder about the same thing.  DD was 16 weeks on Christmas, but the pedi didn't schedule her 4 month appt until the first week of January- when she'll be 18 weeks!  But she was born 9/4, so I guess technically she's 4 months old.

For the purposes of answering pp's questions about her age right now, I'll just say that "She's almost 4 months old."  When she was younger, I would answer with how many weeks she was.

And I've confused myself with explaining my reasoning.  I need a nap!

  • You count it as the same day of the month he was born.  My kiddo's pedi office always schedules their appts as close to the day of the calendar month they were born.
  • I count one month as the next date not four weeks because a month is rarely 28 days long (4w x 7 days).  Gianna was born on 10/15/2008 so on 12/15/2008 she was 2 months old.  I think our tickers use that method as well.

That's what my pedi does too.

  • well... I know that I am counting Jacob as 1 month old on january 1st.  that is when I'll change my siggy pic and do the obligatory month shot ;o)

like pp said, there are 4 weeks of 7 days, which is 28, but 30-31 days in a month... make sense?
