NBR:question about wireless internet

i just bought a laptop today and just now decided to try to connect to the internet...i wasnt expecting to be able to as i dont have wireless internet or anything.

so the computer found a connection, it says its public...so does that mean that its available to the public and im not using my  neighbors connection?

i just want to make sure...thanks

I wouldn't use it, myself.  Way too much risk of hacking, etc.  I have no idea what public is.

Unless your city has city wide wifi, you are using an open network of one of your neighbors.

if it's public I would not use it, unless it's a secure line. Hackers can easily access your computer through a public line...
