Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Anyone read the book Baby Wise?

We got it last week, and we started the routine on Monday....not the best timing since it was my first week back to work. However, DH was home this week, and next, and he is much better at being diligent, when I am more flexible. I'm working on adjusting. My baby is a "snacker" (I nurse) so now I'm EP'ing and we know how much he's getting. This does help a lot, but sometimes I miss the nursing. However, DS is sleeping from about 10:30 PM - 5:30 AM which is fantastic!  We're hoping to work on getting him down sooner so that is a longer period.

Is anyone else reading this book?

Re: Anyone read the book Baby Wise?

  • I read it and found it quite helpful.  It gets slammed alot on this board but it has helped me and a number of moms I know.  I much prefer Secrets of the Baby Whisperer, which is better written and more detailed but is very similar to Babywise, particularly with respect to the Eat/Activity/Sleep routine.

  • I second pp, read both and prefer Baby Whisperer, but they basically say the same thing.  GL!
  • I read it, but it was just too rigid of a schedule for my baby.

  • This book always gets flamed on this site but it taught me a lot.  The eat/wake/sleep routine has worked really well for us.  I EP because DS is a lazy nurser but I agree that I really like knowing how much he eats.  He sleeps from about 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. every night.  I really try to aim for feeding him every 3 hours but sometimes he's hungry way before then so I am still all over the place.

I think the people who freak out over this book assume that we don't feed our babies often enough.  If DS is crying, 9 times out of 10 it's because he's hungry so of course I feed him!  I just really liked what this book taught about putting your marriage first and knowing that DC would thrive on his/her parents truly loving and respecting one another.

  • i think it's sad you're not nursing and miss it - only so you can track how much he eats and follow this book.  And it's good to be flexible.  Go with your mommy instincts over what some book says.
    Wheee!
