Parenting after a Loss

how does your DC deal with stress?

The holidays are stressful for a lot of us and I'm wondering how other people's babies deal with the stress. We had an intense experience at my grandmother's -- really ?really loud, lots of loud annoying people crowded into a tiny condo, everyone in DD's face, etc. etc.

She actually fell asleep in my arms which she never does anymore. I think she tends to shut down when she gets overwhelmed. My dad asked to hold her when she was sleeping and I said no. I felt so bad for her and didn't want to pass her off to anyone else. It didn't even strike me that that was rude of me until today!

Once we got her in the car she screamed the whole way home. :( I felt like doing the same. Today we had a very mellow day and didn't leave the house. She was a little bit more fussy and clingy than normal but seemed back to her happy self by the end of the day.?

Re: how does your DC deal with stress?

  • Allison does the same thing - she passes out asleep when it gets too stressful.  I swear with all the excitement of my ILs being here and all the Christmas "festivities", she has been sleeping 22 hours/day!
  • Anna did pretty much the same thing.  She wanted to be held (only myself, DH, MIL or my mom) and slept in our arms.  That's really unlike her.

All day yesterday, she was cranky and super clingy.  We stuck to our bedtime routine (DH swore she wouldn't go to bed at 6pm) and she was in bed asleep at the normal time.  So far today, she's been pretty content playing by herself in her Exersaucer for the last 1/2 hour.

  • Conner slept all day on Christmas too. He really wanted his mommy a lot. He was clingy yesterday too, but he has a cold. It could be b/c of the cold though.
