During my first pregnancy I got the Belly Book. I loved it then and now I love it even more b/c I can go back to certain weeks and see how I felt or what to expect at the doctors that week...plus each week I can compare how big my belly is getting
It's so different for everyone that I wouldn't stock up too much until you figure out your symptoms and what works for you.
for instance, I bought a bunch of ginger ale to help with nausea, but then learned that all soda made me sick. A couple boxes of saltines (which somehow made me sick) are still sitting in my cabinets as well.
I bought a few pairs of pants one size up to help with bloat, but then lost weight from m/s and they don't fit at all. Similarly, I meant to pick up a bella band, but never got around to it -- I'm at 12 1/2 weeks and still don't need one.
Oh, and I found that daily embryo tracking at https://yourembryo.blogspot.com/ was more entertaining than a weekly update in any of the books that are on the market.
I think I'm one of First Tri's spokeswomen for Sea Bands. I loved mine! Mac n' cheese, WTEWYE, a baby book for the daddy too- my DH was all into it and finished each month before me!
I found the weekly updates on babycenter.com to be better than any of the books.
Other than that I didn't buy anything specific for first tri. Oh I did buy bella bands, but didn't need them until late 1st tri/early 2nd. As pp said, everyone is different
None of the remedies worked - not sea bands, gingerale, etc. Only zofran, which I lurve.
Obviously you need a good doc, prenatal vitamins, and a mom/sister/girlfriend (preferably another mom) to bounce questions off of. Pregnancy books are fun but not essential and some can be unnecessarily scary to newly pregnant moms.

I really like the info on babycenter.com too.

Ditto on the carbs, Sea bands, small things to snack on like dried fruit.
I bought Preggie Pops but they were not helpful so now I have them sitting around. I also have part of ahuge box of Saltines left.
