is this normal? the first 60 seconds are excruciating. it doesn't matter if i have it set to minimum or maximum suction. i'm using a medela lactina plus. thanks.
are you new to pumping? that doesn't sound right to me. when i was first pumping and dealing with engorgement it was sometimes painful. but so was nursing. maybe call a LC or even give medela a call.
newish to pumping. i pumped about once a day from months 0-4, not at all between months 4-6 and now I'm pumping every 2-3 hours to keep my milk supply so Kate can nurse after her chylothorax has resolved. it never hurt before, but right now I'm using my old pump (lansinoh double electric) and it hurt my nips just as badly as the medela. there'e no pain after the first minute or so. why can't they make a pump that actually mimics a baby a little?
I'm using the 27 mm shields. I don't think my nipples are any bigger than that.
I exclusively pump and it's that way for me. It hurts initially, especially when I don't have a let down yet and it switches to full suction. I have to push the button to have it cycle quickly again to get a let down. I have the Medela PIS.
I pump exclusively as well and I don't think it should hurt. Seriously look into a bigger nipple shield. I used to have little 34 A's and my nipples were proportional. Now I'm using the XL size! Yuck, I hope they shrink like my boobs will when I wean.
Re: pumping huuuurts
