Success after IF

tell me about medrol

I am going to have medrol in my upcoming ivf, i have my ivf class on friday but just wanted to know what you guys knew about it.

I did NOT use it in ivf #1, did it make a difference for anyone in getting their bfp?

TIA

  • Medrol is an oral pill; I used it for my first IVF and the FET that got me the BFP.

    From my RE's paperwork:

"Medrol:  A steroid which is sometimes given to transiently suppress immune function during the interval following retrieval and transfer up to the time of implantation."  It's basically to prevent your body from attacking the embryo.  I initially thought it was used only with ICSI but I think it's more widespread than that.

As far as side effects, since it's a steroid it can make you hungry and cause fluid retention.  The dose is small though so most people don't have any side effects.

    Good luck!!

  • I used it with both cycles and didn't even notice I was taking it. No s/e whatsoever.
  • I used it since we did ICSI.  It is a TINY pill and I only took it for a few days.

  • I cant say if it is standard or not, but my RE uses it for all cycles.

    Good luck!

  • i used it in my ivf.  I asked my dr about it and he said it's a steriod that helps make it easier for manipulated embryos (ICSI, assisted hatching etc) to survive in the uterus.  I was on it for 10 days I believe.  Good luck :)

  • I used in in my recent BFP cycle.  4 nights prior to ET.  My doc also uses dexamethasone nightly beginning with Lupron start prior to ER.  I think both along with lots of other protocol changes lead to my BFP.  Good luck!
