Babies: 9 - 12 Months

No gifts for ds from dh's family

It was decided at Thanksgiving by dh's siblings that they, as a family, would stop buying gifts for nieces and nephews. Up until now it has been gifts until they were 16yr (let me add that there are only 2 neices and they are now over 16) so basically this decision only affects our ds.  Nice, we bought gifts for the girls for years, for many occasions and now Luke is going to get nothing.  Bah humbug. Oh well, I guess I know where his favourite place to spend the holidays will be..my Mom's house.

Re: No gifts for ds from dh's family

  • Thats pretty cheap....and sad :( I have 3 nephews and 2 nieces...I cannot imagine not getting them gifts....

  • No and how do you say anything without being a seen as a gift grabbing biotch?  maybe they still will buy a little something.
  • That is awful! Try explaining that to your son when he's 5 and gets gifts from everyone but them!

We put the nephews into the gift exchange when they graduate from college or get jobs.

  • My DH family is the same way. They don't even exchange between the adults. I can see not exchanging between the adults, but under the age of 18, I don't get it.

My family on the otherhand, spoils the kids rotten. Which I think is how it should be.

  • Cheap - for sure! His brothers both make 3 figures.  More than us combined. I spoil my sister's ds and love every minute of it :)

  • Yeah, that stinks.  What our family decided was to cut out the gift exchanging for each other (all the adults) and just get for the kids.
  • Wow, that really sucks.  But your DS is adorable.

  • I agree that that stinks. My dad's family is/was like that though when I was growing up, but my dad is one of nine, and I am the oldest of 28 grandchildren. So in that case I think it makes sense. Sidenote: your ds is adorable!
  • And yes, your son IS adorable! But is Santa orange? Is he an oompa loompa disguised as Santa?
  • WTF?? Man for sure BAH HUMBUG! Even for budgeting reasons we quit buying adult gifts and just did the kids (anyone under 21) I guess so that cut it down to 7 kids exchanging. Jeez...oh well i guess the money you save from havingn to buy nieces & nephews get your DS gifts from "santa & mrs. claus!" :)
  • Thanks for all the support and nice comments about ds.  Glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks it sucks.
rlthomas7 ooompa loompa? that's pretty funny..I didn't notice the orange colour I think it may have scanned funny.
  • That's pretty crappy of them. I could understand if there were a ton of kids left under 16, but it's basically like they are singling out your kid!  Screw them!
  • exactly sunshine723, they have done their best to exclude me for years and now him. it's really kinda sad.
  • Wow, I always thought that when families get together and make a (pretty common in my circle) gift decision like this as a group, that it's the little ones that DO continue to get presents!!! I mean, Christmas is all about the kids, isn't it?? I can NOT imagine you all as a family sitting there, opening gifts (as adults) while even the 16 year olds get nothing, not to mention when your baby is 4 and 5 and so on....

I know xmas is not supposed to be about the gifts but............well,, then no one should get any in that case!!!!
