Success after IF

So pissed at my OB right now!!!

So, tomorrow we will be 10w3d and we were supposed to have our first appointment with the OB, have an ultrasound, etc. then leave town for Christmas with the family at which time we were going to announce our pregnancy and have ultrasound pictures to show.  Today the doctors office calls and tells me that the doctor has an emergency and they have to reschedule our appointment to the 24th......but we'll be out of town.  The next available appointment isn't until the 31st.  OMG!  I'm so upset right now!  After the amount of time it took us to get pregnant, we were really really looking forward to this appointment and now it won't happen until after Christmas.  Huge bummer!

I already don't see eye-to-eye with my OB.  There was a huge 3 consecutive month fiasco with trying to get an accurate 7dpo progesterone level on me.  Then she wanted to put me on Clomid with no monitoring.  I finally just went to an RE on my own and ended up getting pregnant with their help.  I'm so not happy to be back to dealing with my OB....and this is my first experience back.  Makes me want to get a new OB.

  • I'm sorry.. that sucks that you cant be seen until the 30th.  I would definitely look for a new dr.  if you're that unhappy at this point, imagine how unhappy you might feel around 7 or 8 mos.  You have a right to feel comfortable with your dr and this one obviously inst working for you.

  • Where do you go? (I'm assuming you're in the Denver area because of your name?). I love my OB, but I go in Boulder - but the practice is wonderful!

Let me know if you need a rec, but I highly suggest finding someone you love and you jive with - you're going to spend so much time there!?

I was actually thinking about switching to the Mountain Midwifery Center or I think there is a Midwife group in Boulder, but I kinda wanted to see how our first appointment went with the OB before making a decision.  Either way, there is no way I'm going to get an appointment with ANY doctor or midwife on such short notice (for tomorrow).  I really wanted to be able to have 10week ultrasound pictures to show.  I do have the ultrasound pictures done (by the RE) at 6 weeks and 8 weeks but there is really nothing to see but a blob.  I was so excited to get new pictures that actually look like a baby.

Anyway, I'm going to go to the re-scheduled appointment on the 31st and if the ob, nurse and entire staff aren?t on their best/kindest behavior, I'm definitely switching to a new practice.

  • best of luck and let me know if you need any recs!
  • I would call the OB back and see if you can still do the u/s tomorrow and see the OB for your "official" first appt on the 30th.  If the u/s is with a tech, it shouldn't be a huge problem.  Especially if you explain your need for a pic on Christmas.  (If they don't go for that, you know they won't be fun over the next 8 months.)
  • If you really want to get a new OB why not get a new one?  I had an OB/gyn before my IF journey and I only went to see her for routine check ups but as for being my OB when I actually got pregnant? I decided to go somewhere else..it's your body.. you have to be comfortable..  sorry you have to go through this...
  • If you're unhappy with your OB, I encourage you to see a new one.  I did just that.  I was unhappy with my old OB and how she dealt with my IF testing and treatment so I took the initiative to see an RE.  When I got pg, I went to a completely different OB and never looked back at the first one.  My new OB is terrific and I am VERY happy with her.
