Success after IF

rib pain? like something is pushing on my lower ribs...

i have felt rib pain off and on for a few weeks now, but it's def getting more intense... and it's not always pain, to be fair, sometimes it's just tingling or pressure... i know that my ute is all the way up there, i can feel the top of it right under my boobs... so is this just my ute pushing up on my ribs most likely?

on my left side, for some reason, it's worse than the right.  i feel like something is constantly wedged in my lower ribs, esp when i lay down.  it is very uncomfy.... :-/  and i can't imagine it will get better, lol...

anyone else have this?

Re: rib pain? like something is pushing on my lower ribs...

  • I posted about this a couple of months back when it was much worse for me and others confirmed that they had it, too!  Then I read someplace that your ribs actually expand ... so that might be partly where the pain comes from.  I found that it hurt worse after I ate and if I slouched so I tried to stand/sit up straight.  Also, someone had recommended putting an ice pack on my ribs which seemed to help a little, too.  It has gotten better for me.. I don't have nearly the pain that I did before.. so I think I can say that it will get better for you, too, in time!

  • I have a dull pain in my ribs-it's like the baby is kicking but from quite a bit inside. I mainly have it when lying down too. No advice, but sometimes it helps when I change positions.

  • I had that forever.  It was caused by two heads stuck up under my ribs :)
  • OMG I could have written that post myself.  I get it on my left side too.  I was thinking it could be my uterus expanding, but I didnt think that it was the babies just yet bc I would think they are still a little lower.  It's so annoying bc I cant sit for too long and then when I lay down I can only get comfy in certain positions.  I asked the Dr about it and he said that unfortunately it will only get worse as I get bigger... great!!!!

  • i had it really early on before there was much of a baby to push or kick me.  Like choco_lab, I think it was just my ribs expanding.  It has gotten much better, though.  I now just feel pressure when the baby is up there (feels like she likes to rub her butt on my upper ribs!), but not pain.

  • I just asked my OB about my rib pain and numbness today.  She said it is normal and that she experienced it as well.  Mine is also worse on the right side especially when I lay down.  It has got worse the further along I get:(  I try wedging pillows all around me but nothing seems to help except for getting up and moving around (not something I enjoy doing in the middle of the night).  I also notice it when I sit for long periods of time.

  • i felt that too--it was awful!  i would sit with a heating pad on my back at work.  my chiropractor was able to help.  if you haven't gone already, you might want to find a chiropractor who specializes in pregnancy.  (i think you posted about going recently).  i went every 2 weeks and it made a huge difference

  • I'm going through this exact thing right now!  One of the babies kicked so hard on the right side, that it woke me up in the middle of the night.  My ob said he might have bruised my ribs on that side.   It still kills, in that one spot.  I started pushing down on that area on when he kicks me there.  Sometimes he kicks back, but at least I'm not doubled over in pain :)
  • I have had rib pain since my first tri. It is awful but normal.
