the never ending rash

dd has had a rash for almost 2 months now. pedi said it was a yeast rash. we tried lotrimin. no luck. we got a rx for nystatin. have been using that for two weeks and the rash is STILL HERE! we use gse on our cd's with every wash. we even switched to disposables for a week and no luck.

now i'm starting to wonder if there's some other cause for this rash. i bf and have never changed my diet. could it be a dairy allergy? she's on purees, but it's never gotten better or worse with any new food we've introduced.  any advice would be so appreciated...

Re: the never ending rash

  • It's too soon for yogurt, right? I forget when yogurt can start. But the pharmacy can give you probiotics and your doc's office might have samples too. There's a liquid that you can put in a bottle or food or capsules that you can open and pour the powder into the food. We've tried both and they both work for yeast. We just increase his yogurt, use the lotramin and increase probiotics.

  • I was thinking build up on the CDs. But it would go away if you used sposies for a week. Huh, weird. Did you change detergent, soaps, lotions?
  • when I was having rash issues one of the OWT that I remember (didn't try though) was smearing his bum with plain, thick yogurt.  Might be worth a try.  Also a lot of no diaper time.

I suggested the ozonal to you I think the other day.  I really think you should try it if you haven't.

  • My Niece had a really bad yeast like one too when she was a baby and the antibotic didnt work the thing that did work was A+D ointment,  either the yellow and white box or the blue and white. The blue and white is a creamy white and the yellow is like vasoline... Those worked wonders on my ds1 when he got a really bad one too.... Dh niece also had a bad one recently that the doc recommend and I told them to try this one and it worked...They used the creamy one. Either way it's worth a try, I love A+D for bad diaper rashes.  And try some clothe diapers for giving at least 5min of air.... then put back a reg diaper along with tons of this ointment...
  • Have you tried bleaching your dipes yet?  Bleach & Dawn may help as well.
  • thanks ladies! lots of great info. i hope one of these things will work.
  • I am constantly dealing with random diaper rash.  My doc prescribed nystatin which works sometimes, but her new partner just suggested Gentin Violet and that worked great.  It's from the pharmacy but is not prescription (I think it might be herbal?) but it totally stains the skin purple for a few days.  It cleared up my DD's last rash overnight.
