Success after IF

XP: I need some sleep help...

So my boys have been STTN for about 2 months now.  John is a wonderful sleeper, he falls asleep on his own and wake up most mornings at 7:30, sometimes he's up earlier.

But Luke on the hand is a hand full.  I can't put him down sleepy, he just fusses and screams and wakes his brother up.  So I have to get him to sleep and then place him in his crib, which sometimes still he wakes up.

Anyways he was doing great, even when he woke up, I could give him his paci, pat is tummy and he would go back to sleep, but since he was in the hospital 2 weeks ago he has become impossible.

Some nights totally inconsolable even with feeding, other nights feeding helped, but now he is fine as long as he is sleeping in our bed (bad habit I know) - I'm desperate tho!

So he can be screaming at the top of his lungs and I can bring him into our bed and he immediately falls asleep, sometimes he needs a little pat or scratch his head (he loves it).  Anyways, I tried sleeping with his sheets, thought the smell would help...it worked one night.

When he's like this at nap time, I just put his mobile on and let him CIO and once he's asleep place is brother in his crib.  However at night, it's not getting him to sleep its that he wakes up at about 12 or 2, not hungry just upset and nothing works except our bed.

I have tried swaddling as well, but he hates that and screams.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

  • Is it possible he is just still off from his hospital time?

Can you take him back to his crib after he falls asleep in your bed? it's tough, because they are getting to the age where habit forms, so I hate for you to be still struggling with this, but on the other hand, he is clearly bothered by something in the middle of the night... and bottom line, you have twins, you need your sleep!

The Baby whisperer would say he needs to relearn to self soothe, I think, but with twins, it is hard to have one have a sleep issue without affecting the other...

I wish I had some magic words..

  • I forgot to add that, when he falls asleep and I put him back in his crib, its the hysterical screams again.  I find it hard to believe 2 weeks later he is still of from the hospital, but after he got home, 2 days later my SIL arrived for a week.  So it could be just all the changes have thrown him off.

And yes I know he needs to relearn to self soothe, but hard when it means he will wake his brother up.

Even in bed w/ us we don't get good sleep, he has taken to sleeping long ways, his head snuggled into DH and his feet near me.  DH actually fell out of bed this morning because of it sucks but (it was funny)
