how did you figure out when to give it versus a bottle? DD eats about every 3 hours but small amounts. If we give a bottle too soon she will only take 1/2 ounce. But I worry I am not feeding when she is hungry and I think she just needs to suck. DS never took to the paci.
Re: if your DC took a paci as a newborn
ditto
I gave DS a paci right away, in the hospital the day or day after he was born. I didn't give him a bottle of breast milk until he was 6 or 7 weeks old. By then, I was feeding very regularly every 3 hours so I had no confusion over whether he was hungry or cranky. And I only used the bottle sparingly anyway. As I type this, I see it is no help at all.
I would err on the side that DD is hungry and try food first. If she doesn't want any, then give her the paci if that is what she needs.
if he was hungry the paci would be spit out or he'd keep crying....the paci wouldn't soothe him
but they do go through growth spurts. I remember many many times when DS would eat a full bottle 1 or 2 hours after a full bottle
