Buche de noel?

DH has become obsessed with this since having it at a neighbor's holiday party, & I would love to make one for him. But it looks intimidating. I'm a slightly above average baker. Does anyone have a great recipe or tips?

I'm thinking of maybe going with this one?

or maybe Martha's. . .

Re: Buche de noel?

  • The one on Martha is more traditional so maybe more like the first one you had, but the other one looks easier!  I was reading an article today on tips for cooking this and they suggested making the cake and custard one day and then assembling and doing the ganache the next.  Its a project either way.
  • Oooh, good suggestion, thanks! If the snow clears up, I'm running out to get ingredients tomorrow, so I should have time.

  • I made one like the allrecipes one a few years ago.  It turned out really well, although it did crack a bit when I rolled it.  I just covered it in chocolate frosting and you couldn't tell:)
