So... Say you're snowed in with a baby...

Seattle has 8 inches of snow.  Since there is only, like, one guy with a shovel in the whole city everything and everyone is snowed in.

Any suggestions on how to keep a baby who is cooped up in a condo all day entertained? (Aside from let her lick cats, pull up on everything in creation, break stuff, barf on stuff, eat kibble, or inexplicably cry at the apparent disappearance of the deck.)

do you have whipped cream?  if so, put a bunch on the table and let her go to town.  its fun to play in, nontoxic if its eaten, and not too bad to clean up.  you can draw her pictures in it too.

or rice.  rice is a fun texture toy, put a bunch in a bowl and 'hide' small toys in it.

 but don't use  stamp ink to make handprints...water soluble does NOT mean washes off with water.

We have been a little snowed in too, the past couple of days. We live in a house, with an upstairs and downstairs, We basically go from room to room, I let her explore and play and then we move along. We have been reading books, and listening to Christmas carols as well...she really likes that. Would she like to watch you bake and she can have a snack while you are doing it?? Do you have a long hallway where you can play chase me...with the cat too??

Put every article of baby clothing she owns on her and let her sit on the nonexistent deck.

Pull her around on a blanket in the snow, if you don't have a sled, which I'm guessing. . . you don't.

Make her a kibble pie. . .or not.

Not snowed in, but we had one of those long, fussy days earlier in the week and I let her open a Christmas present early.  Tearing the paper occupied her for a loooong time.

I've picked up some good ideas from this post...and I wanted to say it's good to "see" you again, Larkster.  :-)  We don't talk much, but I read your posts and I've grown accustomed to you being around.  You were missed.

We have been snowed in a lot. I do believe that DD has realized that its a day that we aren't going out because I let her stay in her jammies as long as possible (she is currently taking her afternoon nap in them). We play in the saucer and then she will come and hang out in the kitchen with me. We read books and she will try to get into the Christmas presents.  I feel your pain....the snow isn't a big deal for us (we are use to it.....live in North Dakota), but it is the cold with the windchill that keeps us in the house.  Good luck.

Tissue paper is always fun! DD sat and shredded some for at least 30 minutes yesterday. I just had to watch her to make sure she didn't eat it, but she had a ball!

You could also let her eat some snow! Just make sure its not yellow!

We only have rain days here, but I have to admit I have few ideas. Sometimes I just go stick her in the bath so she can get some energy out and kick like a madwoman.

 It's wonderful to see you back, btw, I hope you're feeling ok! We've definitely missed you.

We are snowed in down south of you and I feel your pain!

I parked DD in her high chair, gave her every plastic/rubber kitchen utensil I could find, turned on Christmas music, and put her right next to the window so she could watch the snow. She was content for about an hour, but hey thats a whole hour I didn't have to keep her from knocking over the tree or eating needles!

Pull out old toys.  DS is always entertained by stuff he hasn't seen in a while. 

Let her play with safe kitchen items (ie - plastic spoons, bowls, measuring cups), or give her a long bath with bubbles.

Dude, beats me. I am fricking exhausted by these two cranky butts today. I don't know why they had to choose today to be SUPER cranky. We've been baking cookies, but if I didn't have the older kids to help me with them, there is no way that I'd be able to swing it with how fussy they are. Emilia wore Charlotte in the Beco on her back for a long time, that was the only time she was cheerful all day. They are now fed and in bed, and I am ready to collapse. Oy.

My plan for after nap is to ply them with Puffs and cheese.
