Babies: 9 - 12 Months

How much exercise are you doing?

And when do you fit it in (naps, mornings, evenings?).

Side note: my ab muscles are SO weak now. It's like they don't exist.

Re: How much exercise are you doing?

  • I have stalled at 8 lbs to go until pre-preg. weight.  I do 1-2 days a week lately.  During the summer and fall, I was much better about both the exercise and the eating.

  • Up until this last week I had been going to the gym 4-6 times a week and taking hour long cardio/strength classes. I started in Nov. and would go in the morning or evenings. I am not motivated enough to do exercises at home. Hopefully our weather will clear up enough soon so I can start back up.
  • I am a SAHM now and had every intention of going to the Y to work out (I can't work out at home.....) and getting DS in the day care there to interact with other kids but there isn't enough time between him getting up in the morning and his mid morning nap and I really don't want to go in the middle of the day and have to take a shower and get all cleaned up before doing anything else so right now I am trying to find/make a good time.  DH isn't always home in the mornings or evenings for me to go then and when he is home in the mornings, he is going to the Y.  I know, I just sound like a million excuses.  I'm going to figure it out after all the craziness of the holidays are over.

  • I started working out in Sept, when I was still 20lbs over what I was pre-pg. I took a class that met three times a week, and it started when DH got off work, so we could switch taking care of DS. I finished my last class this week, but I'm thinking I might join a gym that's closer to our apt. after Xmas, bc they have evening classes, too.

My sister swears by the Eight Minute Abs video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNqrkGnkUWc it's cheesy, but I've tried it and it's actually quite hard...

    DS1 - Feb 2008

    DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)

  • I go to Stroller Strides at least 3 times a week in the mornings.  I can take DS and I get a killer workout!  Love it!!!
  • I run every other day and try to visit the Y for weights at least once. We have a treadmill and some small free weights at home, which I use between naps and when DH is home at night. If I want to go to the Y during the day, one of the ILs comes over to babysit.

  • I was running with DS in the jogger stroller this summer and fall, now, not so much...but I just ordered 30 Day Shred and am going to try it when DS sleeps.
  • I haven't been in much a couple weeks because trying to snag a nap has been more important.

But normally I  go 3-5 times a week for an hour at a time.  I do cardio and some weights while I'm there and then stretch at some point once I'm home.

A friend of mine comes over on 3 weekdays and watches Bennett and her son while I go, and I watch the boys while she goes.  It works out really well because the boys also get a playdate in.  Sometimes Bennett is napping when she gets here, sometimes here son takes a nap halfway through.  There are often phone calls in the morning to cancel if the boys are sick or if one of us is anticipating the baby will nap and we want to nap with them.

On the weekends, DH watches DS while I go.

  • What is that thing you call exercise?  ;)

  • I was running 1-2 times a week, but now its way too cold!  I just started mommy and baby yoga.
  • I do a Strollerfit class 3 days a week and my DD usually sleeps through it, its an hour class. Then I try to run 3 days a week, I go in the morning and she naps in the stroller during my runs too. If for some reason I can't get a workout in I do crunches and the plank?which?has really helped my abs get stronger. Oh and lots and lots of lunges and squats!
  • I go to a martial arts gym for kickboxing usually 3, sometimes 4 days a week (it's an hour class w/ bag work and then core work at the end) - usually in the evenings, DH and I have an agreement and he has to watch her when he gets home from work 2 days a week (it's a 6pm-7pm class, she's in bed at 6:45 so... can't take her to the childcare or she'd be a tired, cranky mess!). Then Sunday mornings he watches her while I go. Works out well!
  • I figure skate once a week, on Saturday mornings, so DH watches DS. ?That's all I manage right now. ?It makes me sad. ?:(

  • I try to do exercise videos when DD is asleep in the afternoons. It's too cold here to jog outside with DD, but I'd be OK to go out by myself if I didn't have to take her with me. I just bought this exercise series called P90X, which is basically a bunch of calisthenics (pushups, pullups, military-style exercises) that you can do in the living room with just the DVD, a set of adjustable weights, a pullup bar and resistance bands. Just hope it starts working since I started it this week - it's a killer workout, so I hope I can keep up with it.
