Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Active babies/bored...??

I'm a first time mom so I could just not know what to expect.. but my son is just under 6 months old.  He is a very active baby.  He really doesn't sit still ever!  He generally is happy when he is playing but lately he seems to get bored after a few minutes of playing and wants to be held.  I feel like I am getting him used to the fact that if he fusses he knows I will come get him and pick him up.  Maybe I'm not but the last couple of weeks it really seems like that.  He will play for a lot longer if I am sitting on the floor with him.  Is anyone's baby like this?? I want him to be able to entertain himself and play with himself some so he can learn independence.  It is too young for that?  Maybe that is my problem.. :)

  • This is my DD. She needs constant attention and activity.  Its very overwhelming at times!  She is seriously the happiest baby if there are a bunch of  people around giving her attention or if we're out shopping or at a restaurant (Lots of activity and people).  But if its just us and I sit her down for minute she'll freak out.

    dont have any advice though

  • Well at least I am not alone!!!  I feel overwhelmed too at times so I'm glad I'm not crazy.  It almost makes me feel bad sometimes because I would just like to get a few things done while he plays but he is not happy by himself.
  • Thats my son! He's a bit older than yours, but he always wants to be doign something - I can't help but feel like he thinks I'm boring. I think, sometimes on Monday's, when he goes back to daycare, he is grateful to be with other kids and teachers that pay attention only to him. :-)

I don't really have any advice either, but I have noticed if he is right by me he can play a little longer by himself. I also tend to give him things that aren't toys and he likes those. Right now he loves walking around with the rolls of wrapping paper for some reason.

haha, same with dd. sometimes I feel like she likes daycare more than us.  so much activity to keep her entertained

  • Stosh is the SAME way. He's more entertained by things that are not toys so I let him play with tupperware, measuring spoons, etc. but he always gets bored after a few minutes, especially if I leave him alone. Going out he LOVES to pp watch too....
