when did you move dc to crib?

Abby sleeps in our room, and I don't know if I'm ready just yet to have her move to her nursery (even though it's literally a step out of our door and the crib is 10 feet away from our bed.)  The thing is, she HATES her bassinet.  She'll nap in the crib but won't in the bassinet.  I don't want to deny her some decent sleep because I'm too scared to have her so far from me.

But... I don't think she's old enough to sleep in her own room...  When did your dc move to their own room?

Re: when did you move dc to crib?

  • Definetly don't deny her decent sleep! That's rude! LOL!

Nadia will probably move into her crib around her 3 month bday...

  • I moved Riley at 6 months. I know that seems long but because I was still breastfeeding, I saw no point in having her down the hall in another room when she was waking 2-3 times at night to feed. We had a port-a-crib (like a mini crib) for Riley so she could sleep in it longer than a bassinet.

Move Abby once you're comfortable with it. You can always try it out and if it doesn't feel right then move her back. Do whatever works best for you and Abby! =)

    GL!

  • Mikey started sleeping in his room at around 3 1/2 months...however, if it would have been up to me I would have waited another month or so (but my mom was babysitting that night and laid him down to sleep in his room and when we got home we didn't want to wake him...after that night, we just put him in his room but left both doors open and the monitors on!!!)

  • We never moved Eli to crib.  We co-slept until he was 18 months and then he went to his big boy bed.  We have Chelsea's crib set up in our room and she's been sleeping in it since day 1.  No co-sleeping the second time around.  I'm not sure when we'll mover her into her nursery--I'm not ready.  Maybe around six months.  She STTN and everything - but like you - I don't want her to be so far away.  We'll see...

  • Eight weeks.  It helped us all to realize that even a small BF baby could sleep through the night.  Before I moved her, I would jump up and feed her just about every time she moved, because I wanted to get to her before she started crying.  It turns out that she was just a little gassy, but not really hungry.  We kept all of our doors open and a monitor on, and the little angel blessed us with 6-7 hours of good nightly sleep.  Move her when ever you are comfortable, there is no right or wrong.  Some babies are in their cribs from day one, and some pre-schoolers are still in their parents' rooms.
  • I waited til 3 months to move Nicholas but that was only because his bedroom was on a different floor, very far away from mine and I wanted to wait until he was STTN so I wouldn't have to go up and down stairs in the middle of the night.  The next baby will probably get moved much sooner.  I found it very hard to sleep with a baby in the room.  It was so distracting.
  • ditto shoe-kitty.  8 weeks.  I got much better sleep with Cedric out of the room.  He squeaked and grunted a lot, wch woke DH and me, yet the baby was doing it in his sleep, and he was fine.  I would have moved him sooner but we had company until he was 8 weeks old and they all slept in his room (we had only 2 bedrooms).  Also, his room is right next to ours.  We had all doors open but removed the monitor after the first night or two since his  squeaks and grunts were still keeping me up!
  • She's been in her crib in her own room from day one.  It's really close to our bedroom.  I've been lucky that she's been sttn since 6 weeks.  It was never a big deal for me to have to walk down the hall though.  I knew a transition time would be hard for me so I didn't want to have to deal with it.  She loves her crib (to sleep at night... she still fights nap time in there).  Don't deny either of you good sleep... you'll know when it's right for you.

  • Liev has been sleeping his crib every night since we came home from the hospital.  I didn't want to deal with the transitioning nightmares I had heard about.
  • Now that I've read these replies, I think Nadia is moving sooner than 3 months... I too am guilty of picking her up when she makes any sound because I want to catch her before she howls... We'd probably be better off if she wasn't right next to me. Her room is literally right next to mine and it's probably like 10 steps (or less) from my bed to her crib. I don't even need a monitor. I might try around 8 weeks...

  • 3 weeks.  I'm not a fan of sleeping with my kids, personal choice.
  • 8 weeks. She moved way too much in her cradle and would startle herself awake when she hit the top of it. She was sleeping 8 hours at a time by then. And a couple of more weeks in the nice, comfy crib and she was up to 12 hours a night. Heavenly!

  • We're transitioning now since she is outgrowing the bassinet. Most of them say to move DC to the crib when 3 months or 15 pounds, whichever occurs first. I agree with PP. I jump at every little noise she makes. Moving her will finally allow me to get some productive shut eye. Plus, she is still youingso she'll adapt pretty easily. I wanted to wait for the transition between 3-4 months since SIDS is highest during 2-4 months. Do what you think is best as always for your DC. Good luck!
