When toddlers go on nap strike...... WDYD?

Do you

1. Let them lie there for the duration in crib/ bed?

2. Let them sit/ play quietly in a corner or room (if you are successful in doing this, please tell me how)?

3. Let them rest in their nest and if they're not asleep in 15 min or so, take them out?

4. Jump in the car for a soothing ride?

5. Do something else? - please elaborate

Nutmeg, cilantro, sage, mint, thyme... these are a few of my favorite things! Visit The Nest!Visit The Nest! We have four children; one left us too soon.

They don't have to sleep, but they do have to have quiet time. DS has fought sleeping for many of his naps, but I always kept him in there, and he has always eventually fallen sleep. Even if it's only for a little while.

  • I just let her stay up with me and she'll go to bed for the night earlier.

  • If she's not going to nap, I do make her lay down and rest. Sometimes I will put a movie in for her.

When DH comes home, I get the flock out of the house and have some "me" time.

  • I guess #1.  I make DD#1 stay in her room and usually in her bed (or at least try).  I put a gate across her door so she can't leave her room and threaten to take away her loveys (mean, I know) to keep her in bed if I know she really needs the time.  As long as the girls aren't crying and are leaving me alone, I don't care what they do during naptime.  Is that awful?  Sometimes DD#1 reads books or plays with her stuffed animals.  (She doesn't have any other toys in her room.)  Sometimes she and DD#2 talk or whatever.  I usually get her out if it's been at least an hour, but I try for from 1-3 no matter what.  She's a 50/50 napper anyway but she's learned to play quietly.  It works for us.  We all need some quiet time (though she does much better when she does nap).
  • This sounds terrible, but in all honesty, I get in the car and drive around until he falls asleep, then drive about 10 more min. so he is nice and out, and bring him in and lay him on my bed. Terrible, I know.
  • We have "quiet time" every day (so I guess #1).  She can have books and small toys in bed with her and she has to stay there for a minimum of an hour--usually she stays there closer to 2.  She naps about 2-3 days per week.
