Holy crap! ER bill!

We had to take DD to the ER two weeks ago b/c she fell and split her lip open one evening.  She ended up being fine, didn't need stitches or any treatment at all.  I just got the bill for our visit that night... $556.92!!!!!!  For literally NOTHING!  We sat and waited most of the time and saw a dr. for about five minutes, who literally just said to let nature take its course and it would heal on its own (which it has).  This was my first experience with the ER... is this normal?!?!

Yup, had that last year... $498 for them to take her tempurater.  I could have done that.  Damn me being an unknowing first-timer.  One bill like that and now Im ok if she throws a bit.

Not only is it ridiculously expensive for absolutely nothing, our copay for the ER is $75!

Yep. Totally normal. Do you have an urgent care anywhere close? Maybe next time you can go there in a not so emergency type of emergency.

I second the Urgent care option should something like this ever come up again. We haven't needed it yet for DS, but I needed to get stitches in my finger after an unfortunate bread slicing incident. Not only was it cheaper and quicker, but because it wasn't ER my copay was $35 instead of $100!

Yep. A few years ago DH had the flu really bad, and the bill for him was around $5K.  All they did was ask him a few questions and hook up an iv and give him some fluids.  It's completely ridiculous.
