Anyone have experience with Roseola?

Hey ladies! Just got back from the pediatrician because DS has had a fever since Sunday that goes up and goes down. No sign of an ear infection, his throat is a little red though. She did a CBC and he is fighting something viral for sure. She said to keep an eye out for a rash appearing after the fever goes away.

If your child had Roseola how long after the fever did the rash appear?

I read online that usually Roseola comes after a high fever of 103+, DS's fever has only gone as high as 102, but that's when I've checked it, I'm sure it could have gone higher. How high was your child's fever?

Re: Anyone have experience with Roseola?

  • My daughter (and our next door neighbor's daughetr who is the same age) got Roseola a few months back.  The fever got very high 104.5 but she was in fairly good spirits.

The rash began to appear the day the fever broke.  The next day teh rash was much more pronounced.  Roseola really looks liek someone took a red ball point pin and made little dots all over.  The rash lasted a few days and that was it.

  • My son's fever was 105.6 (we went to the ER right away).

He had an ear infection, but couldn't find anything else wrong with him.

The next day he got the rash, so I knew he had Roseola.  The fever was only that high for one day and the rash lasted for two.

  • We had a different experience. Ds was absolutely miserable.  He had 104 and a day later the rash came out.  He was miserable for about 4 or 5 days after the rash came out.  But Ive heard from others and this didn't happen to them.
  • DD had a fever up to 104.5 for three days.  We were scared.  On day four the fever was gone but she had the rash.  It took a couple of days for the rash to fade completely.  My nephew just got over it and his fever was 101-103, so not as high.  Also, once they have the rash it's not contagious anymore.

  • DD had Rosela last this past summer.  High fever and clingy but not overly miserable.  The rash came the day after the fever broke.  She looked like a hot mess but it cleared up quickly.

  • DS had this two weeks ago. ?5 days of a fever (but only 101 and 102). ?Fever broke after 5 days and the rash appeared. ?He was totally fine after the fever; rash didn't bother him one bit. ?The worst part was not knowing for 5 days what was going on.
