Feeling guilty about having another baby

I am very excited to have another baby, we are ttc this cycle, but I feel guilty about not giving DS all the attention once number two arrives.

Am I silly?

Re: Feeling guilty about having another baby

  • it's completely normal to feel this way. I'm 2/3 through my second pregnancy and I STILL feel this way. The time you DO get to spend with DS will be all the more special for baby2 being in the picture.

  • Not silly. I think it is pretty normal. I was talking to my BFF today about this. We are TTC#2 in March. She has two kids 18 months apart, 9 and 7. She thought my guilt and fears are normal, but that once the second baby gets here "it" (the ability to manage) just kicks in. She said the same thing to me about "it" kicking in when DS got here and she was right on that.

  • It's normal to feel this way.?

I'm having #3 in less than 2 weeks - no one is getting all my attention! LOL! They survive though.?

  • It's normal to feel a little guilty about that, but I think having a sibling is a wonderful thing.  And it's probably not healthy for a kid to get all the attention all the time.  The world is not always going to revolve around them.  But yeah, you can't help feeling guilty.  My DD has adjusted really well to the new baby, I'm sure your child will be fine too.

  • I don't feel guilty yet, but I'm sure I will soon :) I keep reminding myself that I'll try and involve DD as much as possible, while also making a point to schedule some alone time with her. Even just running errands can be special- I remember liking doing that with my own parents.

  • I think that's totally normal. I still feel bad that my DOG doesn't get as much attention as he used to. Dog

  • I feel the same way and we haven't starting trying for #2 yet.  This is a big concern of my DH's and somewhat a concern of mine.  However, my DH is an only child and I am one of three children.  I think it is completely normal.  My mother told me that the day she was going in to the hospital to have my brother (the second child), she told her mother-n-law she had changed her mind!!!  HA HA!!!
  • I still feel this way once in  a while, when we can't go somewhere for #1 b/c of #2.  But the vast majority of the time I am so happy that they are close in age.  They are permanent playmates, seeing them laugh and play makes me so glad I did it.

In the long run you will be so happy that your kids have each other!

  • I feel the same way.  But I know all will be fine.
  • I feel the exact same way!  I was VERY suprised when we got our BFP (TTA that cycle) and it's all I could think about.  My DS and DH are my world and we are so busy already.  It's hard to imagine what it will be like with another one, but DS loves other kids and is great with babies so I think he will be OK.  PLus, my BIL is my DHs best friend and he really wants that for our DS.

  • Well spare a thought for me. I feel guilty I'm NOT providing a sibling. DS would love one and I don't think he'd miss the attention anymore, the last 6 months he has been much more into playing with kids not mum and dad.
