Bottle to sippy transition...

is not going well!  DD is not usually very attached to her bottle, so I didn't think it would be this hard, but she swats away her sippy of milk anytime we try to give it to her!  She's fine with whole milk - (she's been drinking that out of a bottle for the past few weeks), and she is fine with sippies (drinks water or juice from them), but milk+sippy = NO!!  She hasn't really had any milk to drink all weekend because we just kept offering her the sippy, thinking she'd take to it eventually, but she hasn't!  Anyone deal with the same thing, and any suggestions?

Re: Bottle to sippy transition...

  • Well, my DS is having a tough time with the sippy card period.  We will start integrating whole milk this week.  I guess for some kids, it just takes awhile.

  • Have you tried only offering milk from the sippy - no juice or water - until she gets used to drinking milk from the sippy?
  • at first, i gave them water in sippies, just to practice, before i started them on whole milk. but when i started the real transition (not just playing with the cups) i put only whole milk in them. nothing else. they don't get juice. and no milk in bottles. so it was milk in sippies or nothing. i replaced a bottle at a time doing this, so at least while they were getting used to it, they were also still getting bottles at other meals.

last week, they had their last bottles (and at the same time, their last formula.)

  • We tried cold turkey this weekend like you said.  Only milk in sippy.  On Saturday, DD only took a few sips out of the sippy and then had a babysitter at night and refused even the bottle.  I did dreamfeed her before bed and she slept all night.  On Sunday DD woke up coughing and with pink eye so we did bottles to keep her hydrated.  I figure in another week I will try cold turkey again.  I think it will be the only way to make the switch.  I couldn't just replace a bottle feeding because she wouldn't take anything from the cup to replace the bottle.
