I have the Vicks Cool Mist Vaporizer and decided to try it out last night because our air is really dry in our house and I've been having some sinus issues. It was the first time using it, right out of the box. I rinsed it as the directions said and didn't use any added extras (like the Vicks stuff you can add-- this model says not to use them).
After about 2 hours I woke up with a terrible taste in my mouth and almost a burning, metallic taste on my tongue and throat. I was alone in the guest room, so I can't ask DH if he noticed. I tried to keep sleeping thinking it was all in my head, but ended up turning it off and next time I woke up it was fine.
Do you think it just needs to be run a few times to get it cleared out? Like I said, it's brand new, so the filter should be fine. Did anyone else notice a similar problem?
Re: Vaporizer left bad taste in my mouth... anyone else experience this?
ditto! Or maybe try distilled water? Could be something with your water.
(read it. you know you want to.)

YES! When you get another, run it once with distilled after wiping down with vinegar and rinsing with distilled. And if your water has any chlorine in it-def. use only distilled when you run it. Believe it or not--I got chlorine poisining by using our tap water in my last house. Turns out the city had just "dumped" a lot of chlorine in the water supply.
My first symptom was the taste, then eye burns, then mucous membrane burns. Seriously, use distilled if you have any doubts. Much love, Jill
