2nd Trimester

Anyone on Progesterone suppositories?

I am only 5 weeks along and my progesterone dropped from 17 to 11.6 from this past Monday to Wednesday.  I was put on Crinone Progesterone Suppositories daily.  Have any of you ladies used this or another type with good success?  I am a bit nervous about this and am looking for some reassurance.  From what I hear, I will have to be on it until the end of the first tri.  Does this sound right?  TIA for any advice and words of encouragement!!

Re: Anyone on Progesterone suppositories?

  • I took the exact same suppositories until 12 weeks.  They worked for me.  I had 2 m/c before this pregnancy without being on the suppositories. I've never heard anything bad about them.  Goodluck to you!

  • I took the same ones too - for the first tri.  I didn't have any problems. I was nervous at first too....Don't worry lots of woman take them!!!
  • I also took the suppositories until the end of 1st tri (took my last one last Thursday). I also had 2 m/c in my 2 previous pregnancies and everything looks good this time. It makes your symptoms (esp. nausea and sore breasts) stronger, so beware of that, and they are very messy, but so worth it!
  • I had to take the pill form of progesterone for this pg and so far it has done the trick.  I MC'ed  my last 2 pg's  so I think the supplements really helped.

  • I took the pills 3x's/day until 12 weeks.  My progesterone was a 10 right around 5-6 weeks and they wanted it to be at least a 12.  I started taking the pills and 1 week later my number jumped to a 50.  Take your meds and just take care of yourself.
  • Good for them for checking it. My former fertility doesn't check the levels, they just put everyone on progesterone regardless if they needed it or not.

I was on them from my IUI until about 9 weeks. They were fine, as an above post said they did make the nausea worse once my morning sickness set in, but I had a small sense of more security knowing the extra hormone was there to protect the pregnancy. To me it was worth it, after TTC for years and doing fertility.

Anyway, my old clinic wasn't very good about explaining things.  I learned after one cycle that I had to lay down after insertion. I forget if it's 10 minutes or 20 minutes. Just makes sure you ask about that if they didn't tell you.

I used to put it in and then walk around or do housework etc. After 5-7 days, I was in horrific pain from the irritation in my cervix. After I learned that tip, all was fine.

Hang in there, it will be worth it. Best of luck to you and congrats.
