For those who have had c-sections

My baby boy is 3 weeks old today, and I had to have a c-section for him. I have had some pain this week and of course forgot to call the dr's office before they closed today because I got really busy!

After a few days, my incision didn't hurt too badly on the outside (it hurt inside though!!) and the skin around the incision felt numb, presumably from the nerve endings getting cut in surgery....

In the past couple of days, I have been having more itching and soreness around the incision. Some of the skin around it has even gotten reddish, tender to the touch, and a little more swollen.

Other than that, it looks pretty normal, nothing oozing out of it or anything! I was just concerned about the tenderness, wondering if it could be a sign of a possible infection somehow.... or maybe it's the nerves regenerating and now I'm actually feeling what I didn't feel before.

Anyone else have that happen? Should I be worried?

Re: For those who have had c-sections

  • unless it looks weird or is oozing, I think it's pretty normal. believe it or not it's going to feel akward for about a year (meaning numbness, itchy) and then you'll end p pregnant again and ready for another c-section...just kidding!

  • I agree. My daughter is 13 months and I still feel a little awkward there.
  • I haven't had a c-section, but i have had a few surgeries.  The itching is very normal, and part of the healing process.  Wound areas will stay numb for quite sometime, and with theoozing, make sure you haven't popped a stich and keep the area clean.  Ifyou are concerned, call the doctor....

  • My experience was the same as yours. I think its all part of the healing process. I can report, tho, that 14 months later and my scar is barely visible.

  • Every once in awhile I still get a shooting pain around my incision. For the most part I have gotten feeling in the area but its not like before the c-section just yet. Did you have staples? I had staples and they hurt like hell before they took them out and caused a lot of irritation.
  • My scar was puffy, raised, and very red for a long time after the c-section.  It took about 5 or 6 months for the area to begin looking normal again.  Now it is flat and light pink and barely noticeable.
