2nd Trimester

Failed the 1 hour

The doctor's office called to notify me that I failed the 1 hour. I was close to passing (140 glucose level) but since I have a family history, anything greater than 130 requires the 3 hour test.

I have to follow the GD diet until I do the three hour test next week.

Anyone with borderline results fail the three hour?

Re: Failed the 1 hour

  • I think more people pass the 3 hour as opposed to fail it - they told you to follow the GD diet? How will your results actually be relevant if you're eating differently? My PA said I wasn't allowed more than 150 carbs per day up to the 3 hour test and it didn't make sense so I called the lab and they told me don't change my diet at all.

  • This happened with my first pregnancy.  The three hour test is the devil that stuff is sooo nasty and you can't leave so I had to wait in the waiting room the whole time.  It came back that I was borderline so I had to watch it but it never ever went above it.  So this time she said I could skip it but I had to watch my sugar I told her Thank you very much because I didn't think I could keep that nasty stuff down this time

Good lord the drink the second time was TERRIBLE. The lad tech just kept telling me to try to "keep it down" and boy were they not kidding!

They should be forced to drink it as well.  I just remembered a have to drink that stuff right before my c section that taste about the same.. it didn't stay down last time what makes them think it will this time
  • I failed the 1 hr. and passed the 3 hr.  I have a family history of diabetes but not GD.  You will most likely pass.  Good luck!

Lol - no kidding. Good luck!

  • Yeah, the research I have done said that one of the issues with the 3 hour is the lack of consistency in diet recommendations before the test.

So I will be following the GD diet, yipee!

Thanks for all your help! I am NOT looking forward to drinking the stuff!

Maybe I'm confused but don't you want test results based on what your diet is normally? If you follow a GD diet up to the test then obviously your results will show that you have passed.

  • I do, but my doctor's instructions said to follow the GD diet.

    Who knows.
