this sucks!

I know it is not a huge deal to be GBS+, but it really bothers me.

I just wanted to hear the Dr. say that everything came back perfectly fine, but nope...I get the "Here's the pamphlet that tells about GBS and the antibiotics you'll have to be on".  ughhh, I'm frustrated.

I was GBS+, too, and I agree, it sucks.  I mean, it's no big deal, but for me it meant that I had to go into the hospital right away instead of being able to labor at home at all.

My thoughts EXACTLY!  My first question for my Dr. was "So what now, I have to be hooked up the entire time I'm laboring? just great."   I just about started crying.

I am sorry! I was GBS+ too I wanted a natural birth and felt like that was the first wrench thrown into my birth plan. It's okay to cry, I sure did. All the way home from that appointment.

You can ask your doctor about doing a heparin lock. That is what they did for me. So I only had to be attached while they were doing the doses of antibiotics. (That is, until they started the pitocin ) My midwife told me that if you take pro-biotics it can help clear GBS out of your body. She told me that at my PP appointment though, Doh. She thought she had told me when she gave me the results and said that some of her patients try the probiotics for a few weeks and they test them again around 40 weeks. If it has gone away no antibiotics. Next pregnancy, I am planning on taking probiotics the whole time. Good luck!

I was GBS+ too. It sucks but it's really not to bad. Like you I was expecting the doctor to come back and say "oh, yeah, that GBS test came back negative, moving on..." I so did not expect it and was really disappointed.

Like PP said, ask for a hep lock. I labored at home from 10 in the morning until around 5 and when I was in the hospital I was able to labor in the tub with the IV still attached (I just had to make sure my hand stayed out of the water so the tape wouldn't come loose). The biggest problem for me was that the nurse had to try 3 or 4 times before she got the IV in - my hand was seriously brused.

Whatever you do don't read too much about it, you'll just freak yourself out. Lots of women are GBS+. Knowing and being able to do something about it is better than not knowing.
