simplicity furniture?

Anyone going with this brand? Baby bargains rates it an F, but I'm having a hard time finding furniture I like. I originally wanted the pinehurst collection, and my dad had offered to pay for the bed. Not sure if the $400 will be out of his price range or not. I'm trying to come up with a backup plan, and not sure I'm going to have any luck. I'm picky.

Re: simplicity furniture?

  • I would be nervous that it was rated an F.  You have to remember that it's for a place for your baby to sleep-- not a fashion statement.  Trust me, I had to bend on certain gear and things, because it was safer-- even if not as "cute".  You are going to want something that is durable too.

  • I did not go with this brand because of the # of recalls they have encountered fairly recently and the fact that I had heard they had filed for bankruptcy (I dont know if this was legit though).

  • I realize it is not all about the fashion, or style. However, the book also says that all baby beds sold must meet safety guidelines. The # of recalls was the reason it ranked so bad, and I guess the #1 reason I should steer clear.
  • I personally wouldn't buy it, because there are SO many options out there, and they are known for their recalls... babies have DIED in those cribs.  Not worth it to me.  There's plenty of other cute stuff out there.

One of my friends did get a Simplicity crib, the Ellis from Target.

  • I had looked at this originally but when I read Baby Bargains I decided it wasn't worth the risk. Look into the DaVinci cribs or others at babies r us. There were several brands within the $400 range or lower that received A and B ratings. Also, if a brand got a C but the only complaint was shipping times I wouldn't be as concerned.

  • We have a Simplicity crib.  The recalls have all been due to drop side errors in construction or assembly, and the convertible/ non drop side cribs were not affected.  Personally, I don't trust ANY crib with moving parts, becasue you never know what could go wrong with it.

What simplicity crib are you looking at?  We have a Prescott (the same thign as the ellisi n a different wood and finish). It is solid. And still looks great after almost two years of use.

  • I bought this brand 4.5 years ago with DD, and I loved it.  I had planned on using it again with this baby, but then I saw the recalls.  My crib wasn't completely recalled, but they did have to send me some replacement hardware.  Now I am torn - do I use it or buy a new one - I really don't need to spend the money on a new one - but I am not sure I want to use the old one.

If I was buying a new crib - I would not buy this brand -just because of the number of recalls that are out there.

  • I was looking at the ellis. As terrible as it sounds, its not the baby beds I'm having a hard time finding. It seems there is about 3 or 4 very common designs. However, I hate most of the dressers that match them, and I'm a matchy person. I'm going to look at dressers at regular stores that arent' neccessarily baby stuff, and maybe I will have better luck.
  • I would think the Ellis would be fine, since it does not have the drop side.  We have the changer/dresser for ours, and like it.  We were going to get a low dresser to use instead, but then came across the changer at a clearance sale and picked it up.
  • We did buy the ellis.  It is set up and very sturdy.  I love the looks of it!  The recalls were on the drop side cribs, which I am hesitant about in any brand.
