Ok, let's talk baby furniture.
I am a "dark wood" person... I like espresso colored, non-red, dark wood. DH and I picked out a baby set at Ikea (Leksvik collection, pics in bio) and now that it's getting time to actually *buy* it, I'm having second thoughts. the wood is too light, and I don't want to have light wood in her room for the next 10 years-ish.
I really want to spend under $200 ish on the crib. I just don't want to spend $500 (which it seems like that's how much they all cost) on a crib. I have no problem spending more on other pieces for the nursery, like a bookshelf, dresser, etc. But they aren't in the crib for that long and it seems like a waste.
So I was looking on target.com and found a Graco Lauren crib...it's cute, dark wood, has good reviews, and is $150. I don't have Baby Bargains (I already knew what carseat, stroller, etc I wanted from my friends who have read Baby Bargains, so don't feel the need to do that research again)...
The reason I'm iffy, is because I don't want to order something that I'm not 10000% sure is safe. My baby will be sleeping in it, this is the last thing I want to scrimp on.
Anybody just order a crib cause they liked how it looked? And not worried about Baby Bargains?
Re: Argh nursery furniture... advice please.
We found a bed and changing table at Target(in the store) that is perfect. It's dark wood and it's a convertible. Baby bed, toddler, day bed, full size bed. That's what we are buying. It's I think $299.00 but worth it to me.
Edit: Oh and $299.00 I think it inexpensive, there are beds out there that aren't convertible for SO much more
We bought our nursery furniture from JCP based on how it looked (and price) and we're very happy with it.

Annie-- what brand???
RichInLove-- seriously I am driving myself bonkers over here... I saw EFLO's nursery pics yesterday and thought "man I really don't want light wood!!" So it's her fault, not mine, LOL Yes it's in stock online, and in some stores in my area.
Not really true. ?You should check and make sure that your manufacturer doesn't have a bad track record of recalls. ?Also, there are a few companies that get repeatedly fined for hiding safety problems. ?Just an FYI.?
Actually, Baby Mod is manufactured by the same company that makes DaVinci and Million Dollar Baby furniture. Who cares if it's from Wal-Mart, as long as it's High Quality.
Oh good, it was out of stock when I checked last. Your whole post is funny b/c it's EXACTLY what I've been thinking. And that Graco crib gets a good review in Baby Bargains. So now we just need to find matching furniture for that crib.
i kinda hate baby bargains...I don't think they necessary should be the be all of things...but I do know that the Graco lauren got great reviews from consumers guide...great price, but I haven't seen it in person.
The color is the reason we are iffy on the ikea crib, too! Our furniture is the same color, but we plan to switch that out.
I have a baby bargain book and another review book at home. I am more than happy to look the crib up for you later! But some of the pps are right, they are all safe.
I think it's Sorrell or Standford. They have quite a few on the website too that are dark cherry/black, that are convertible. And under $300.00. We just started looking and didn't take a flyer because our target has it on the show room, and it's a little early to be buying a bed.
GL!!

I was on the same boat as you, we looked at Ikea, but I didn't like how light the furniture was, we wanted something with a darker wood look.
That is the crib that we ended up getting, the Graco Lauren in Espresso, and we absolutely love it. We got ours from Walmart though, not Target (we did the site to store shipping thing so we could pick it up in the store without having to pay shipping). I have a picture of it that I can post if you tell me how to PIP :-)
We got the Cottage collection convertible crib and dresser/changer combo from JCPenney. Both crib and dresser were less than $500 total with tax.
This furniture comes in a color called "coffee" which is dark wood. I almost got it but went with cherry instead.
We're very impressed with these pieces.
This is the exact furniture that we ordered. I wanted the coffee, but all of the pieces weren't available in it so we went with the Cherry. I found that the Cherry is a lot lighter than other Cherry's I've seen.
