D&C didn't get everything :(

Has anybody had this happen?  My d&c was 3 months ago and i went in for a sonohysterogram yesterday and my dr told me that there was still "stuff" in my uterus and they would have to do another surgery to remove it.  The d&c was very traumatic for me and i would give anything to not have to have another surgery.  Are there other options?  I looked online and found that misoprostal is given to induce natural m/c so i'm not sure why i cant get that instead.  I called my dr this morning and am waiting to hear back.

Hi, I'm waiting to find out if I still have tissue left in my uterus after my D&C on 11/13. My doctor said that if I do, I would have to take a medication called Cytotec (or something like that).

Good luck to you and I really hope that it works out so that you don't have to have another D&C.

Thanks for your support ladies.  I think Misoprostal is the same as Cytotec (one might be a brand name or something) so i'm glad to hear that your dr told you that.  I'm hoping mine will come back and say we can try the meds instead of surgery so i can stop freaking out and actually move on from this.

When do they check you to make sure they got everything?  My OB supposedly checked and said all clear, but 3 months later with my RE, i was expecting a perfectly clear uterus and was shocked.  I guess my OB didnt look very hard (grrr).  I hope your follow up goes better than mine.

I'm still having bleeding at 4 weeks post D&C. I went in for an ultrasound and had blood taken yesterday to check my HCG levels. I'm still waiting for the results

I had a simliar experience.  About a month after my D&C I took a pregnancy test just for the heck of it, and of course it was postitive.  I had my HCG checked at that time and it was 31.  So then I got my period a day after that, and since we were still following my levels to 0 I went in a week after my first HCG and it was 17.  My doctor said that he would do an ultrasound to see what was going on, and there was a tiny piece of tissue still left.  He was surprised that my period had not shed the tissue, so we kept tracking.  Since they were decreasing every week he didn't feel it necessary to prescribe drugs or another D&C.  We tracked my HCG levels down to 6.  He gave me the option of another blood draw, but I didn't feel that it was necessary and neither did he being that anything under 5 is considered negative.  Good luck, I know it's frustrating.  About the only thing you can do on your own is take a home HPT.  If it's positive you know that you are at least above 25 and (therefore probably tissue remaining), but some tests are even more senstivie than what they can claim due to repeatability studies.

My dr had me do a pg test yesterday and it came back negative.  He says there's a small possibility that it's a fibroid, but that he's 99% sure it's leftover tissue...and he showed me on the u/s screen that it almost fills up my entire uterus so it's pretty good size. For some reason, I've never had hcg levels checked during or after my pregnancy.  So frustrating!

I am sorry that the D&C was so traumatic for you, but I would recommend having another D&C if that is what your Dr. recommends.  It can be harmful to let the products of conception sit in your uterus.  I used the mistopropal for my most recent m/c and it didn't work for me (caused super heavy bleeding & cramps, but the sac did not come out & I ended up having a D&C a couple of weeks later).  Good luck & I am sorry you have to go through this.
