Baby Music

Does anyone have any experience with the Lovely Baby CD's (lovelybabycd.com)?? Just wondering if this series was worth spending the money on versus just downloading and burning classical cd's...

Re: Baby Music

  • The whole idea of music making baby smarter and increasing ability to do certain tasks stems from the "Mozart effect" (google it . . . too much info to put here lol).  Anyway, I'm a musician currently getting my master's in music (b.s. in music ed.) and while I believe music and music education is important, I wouldn't waste my money on these "baby series" (including the classical cds by Baby Einstein).  You can go to your local CD or book store and find better quality recordings of the exact same classical pieces by very good, famous ensembles for much much MUCH less money.  So for me it isn't so much not thinking the cds are bad, but that you can get the same thing (or better . . . if you prefer a recording done by the London Symphony as opposed to a watered down, edited version) for less money.

That said, I don't have any specific experience with the cd you mentioned.  I looked at the website and it said that the composer who heads up the project used arrangements of classical tunes.  I prefer the original of Beethoven's 9th Symphony as opposed to one that has been made 'baby friendly."  But I can't think of anything that is inherently baby un-friendly about any piece of classical music know so I don't know what they mean by that.
