Whoa, you really do? I don't mean that sarcastically at all - seriously, I've never met anyone who thought saying "retarded" (when used out of context) was offensive. I'm shocked. In a good way. :-)

when you work with mentally handicapped kids, you get a different perspective on things.

I hate when people do that!  I agree with the "retarded" saying too. I have heard others use that and I just stare at them with disbelief!

ditto.  we just went thru this last month w/ "retarded". It's just a saying.  I am not going to flip out over it.

Whether its "just a saying" or not, its still offensive, I work with children with special needs and I think using "retarded" as an insult to something or someone is childish and immature.  Same with "gay"
