Please help me regarding wheezing

So I told my OB at my last appt 2 weeks ago that I seem to be wheezing every night.  It starts after I lay down to watch t.v. or shortly after I go to bed.  Once I'm up and walking around, it will slowly go away.  She listened to my lungs, and they were clear, so she told me that she had a feeling the sound was actually coming from my nose.  I didn't argue with her, but I knew that the sound was not coming from my nose.  So yesterday I decided to see my GP.  He said that it could be adult onset asthma, although he was shocked that it would come on so frequently and quickly.  He then said because it mainly occurs when I'm laying down, that he felt it was most likely from acid reflux causing a reaction in my vocal cords.  He said I most likely would never even feel the acid reach the vocal cords.  Well today, I have been up and moving around and I'm still wheezing.  I'm concerned about it.  My GP said that if it was asthma, I really needed to treat it because if not, it could do damage to the baby.  However, albuterol, which is used to treat asthma also causes contractions and he's afraid I'll go in to pre term labor.  Has anyone else experienced anything like this in their pregnancy or heard of adult onset asthma?  I don't know what to do.

  • I didn't want to view your post and not respond.

I remember having wheezing close to the end with DD and DS. I just switched sides and it would make it better though. I'm sure you've tried that. Is it with every breath?

  • Do you think that maybe the baby may be laying on something to cause it?  Since it's when you're laying down?

  • That's what I was thinking.  However, today I've been up and it's still there.  It's with any deep breath I take.  It's mostly when I exhale.  It sounds like a hoarse, raspy whistle.  Sometimes it happens when I inhale.  I'm hoping it goes away after pregnancy.
  • I don't have a lot of advice but maybe try to treat the reflux and it might make the wheezing better...the other day I woke up and could not take a breath at first b/c the acid was so bad I was about to throw up.  Try Mylanta and see if it works...cannot hurt.
