Babies: 9 - 12 Months

5-6 month year olds still swaddled?

Anyone still swaddling??

Pedi said we can do it as long as she wants it and occasionally she breaks out but she loves it...

When you swaddle her she lets out a deep sigh and is out within 2-3 min...

Unswaddled its not fun...

She is 5m 1 week and I just bought bigger swaddling blankets on etsy..

Am I alone?

Re: 5-6 month year olds still swaddled?

  • DD is still swaddled.  She wakes instantly if she gets herself unswaddled.  Her pedi also said it was ok as long as she wanted it.  I have two weeks off at Christmas so I am hoping to break her of the swaddle but we will see how it goes.
  • We still swaddle.  I gave a half hearted attempt at weaning a couple months ago, but decided that if Arlo is happy and he is safe, then there is no reason to stop until he is ready.  I've heard that many babies self wean from swaddling eventually.

  • We swaddled DD until she was around 5 months. It helped her sleep tremendously!!! We only stopped because she was rolling over onto her belly while swaddled and in a sleep positioner and at this point that was unsafe..

  • We're still swaddling.  DS is too much of a wiggle worm to not do it.

  • We still swaddle, but he ends up breaking out of it.  I think he needs it just to get to sleep, then he's fine after that.

  • That was about the time when we stopped swaddling. Piper started getting out of the miracle blanket and that thing is like fort knox! Plus she started turning over and I was concerned with her new fondness for sleeping on her stomach and not having her hands free could be a bad idea. It made me nervous so we switched to normal pajamas for warmth and she did fine after about a week or two with the new sleeping arrangement.
  • We stopped swaddling over Thanksgiving, and the only reason we did is because he was busting out, and was getting too big for the swaddle blankets.  It went better than expected, but I was prepared to make my own velcro swaddle blankets if need beBig Smile
  • We swaddled DS until 6+ months. Frankly, I think we could have swaddled him for a bit longer, but we were convinced he would never be unswaddled. If your dr. isn't worried, and your DD likes it, then go for it...

  • We swaddled until 9 months!!! We tried breaking her of the swaddle habit prior to that and it was a no-go. I think she just wasn't ready. Finally at 9 months we stopped and she didn't miss it at all.
