Random ? for the day: WDYT about these names?

I randomly ran across some genealogy data for my family, and I was just browsing when I found a few names that I might consider for future DCs.  Some of these go back to Europe and the 1600's, so I'm not totally sold.   What do you think?

Girls:
Catherina
Etta
Lydia
Hallie (originally used for a boy but sounds like a girl to me)

Boys:
Mattias
Joel

I found these along with a couple of Minnie's, a Minerva, a Hosea, and a Lottie.  Smile

  • DH's awesome grandma is named Lottie, I've considered using Charlotte for a girl as a tip of the hat to her.

I think Catherina would lead to her using a nickname most of the time.  I like Lydia.

  • I LOVE Hallie for a girl.  I know a girl, probably late 20's early 30's who is french and her name is Lydia.  I grew up with a boy, probably 26 now, who's name is Joel

  • I think Lydia is very pretty and uncommon.  Not a huge fan of the others though.

  • i like Hallie and Joel
  • I love Etta and will be naming my DD that.  Well if I have another one.

  • DS's name is Joel and if we have a girl ever, her name will be Hallie (after DH's grandma). Love them both!
  • I love Lydia!  It was on our list for girl names.  I also like Joel.

    I don't like the others.

     My family tree includes:

Bertha, Irvin, and Ruben.  They didn't make the cut.  Smile

Eh, I don't think Ruben is THAT bad.  Smile  I actually went to school w/one that was a few years ahead of me.

  • I like lydia and Hallie for girls and Joel for a boy.

  • I did the same thing when pg with DS...DH was adamant that we use at least one family name.  So glad we had a son, because in researching, my initial finds on his side were names like Una (passed down for three generations) and Dorcas!

My great-grandmother's name was Lydia Amanda, but my family says everyone called her Lydie.  I am considering using it we have a little girl this time.

  • I like the idea of Catherina, but would it be pronounced similar to Catherine with an A at the end or like Katarina? For the pronunciation issue, I wouldn't us it, or would change the spelling.

Lydia was on my list of names that I love but DH vetoed it :(

Hallie is cute for a girl!

I don't like Etta at all, but I think both the boy names are nice, just NMS :)
