DS was diagnosed with reflux yesterday. The pedi wants me to try adding a teaspoon of rice cereal to his bottle (4oz). She said that should be fine going through the nipple. I tried it last night but even with that small amount of cereal, it does not come through the nipple. I'm scared to mess around with trying to make the hole bigger. If you have had to do this, what type of nipple do you use? We are using Dr. Brown bottles. Thanks!
Re: Reflux moms
I'd try going up a to a level 2.
sm's advice is good... we wound up just getting the Y shaped nipples [we use born free] because we're adding much more cereal than that to our bottles. i know some of the moms just open their nipples up with a fork or something as opposed to spending the extra cash.
i'm pretty sure mrs.jenni uses dr. brown's. i'll point her in the direction of this post.

I put about 1 teaspoon of cereal in 6oz of Similac Sensitve w/ our Dr. Brown bottles. We tried nipple levels 1-3 and nothing worked, so we actually did stick a fork in the nipple to make it a little bigger (gasp!) You can also try the "y" nipples as well.
Good luck!

I take a needle and hold it over a fame for a few seconds and then stick into the already existing nipple hole and move it around to open it. The heat opens the hole up without melting it and you don't make a weird hole opening with the fork.
