Babies: 0 - 3 Months

is it too late?

i've been trying to breastfeed from day 1 with sooooo many problems. i am now using a supplemental nurser and i am going to get a different pump tonight or tomorrow. we were using the medela classic with no change in supply, we are going to get the symphony to try...dd is 4 months old now. is it too late to get some more milk or do you ladies think i still have a chance?? i really don't want to quit but it breaks my heart when she won't latch on for more than a minute before screaming like someone is beating her...

Re: is it too late?

  • I had a problem getting DD to latch & got nipple shields. They worked great and now w/ in the past 3 weeks my milk supply is just terrible. I went from about 4 ounces every 3 hours down to like 1 ounce if I'm lucky. The dr. started me on the mini pill & I think it totally screwed w/ me. Urgh. I still let DD latch. Some is better then none. As long as your making milk...I'd suggest going w/ that philosophy...some is better then none....I let DD latch & then give her 4 ounces afterwards...I know she's still hungry. Have you tried Nipple Shields?
