Establishing a routine and a bedtime ritual???

Ok I've read too much info about how to get DC on a routine and am a bit overwhelmed and confused.  Some informaiton is contradistory.  DC is 4 weeks old and I am trying to establish the routine of eat, activity/play, sleep.  I'm trying not to let her stay awake longer than 2 hours but sometimes she won't go to sleep.  We don't get out of bed until 9 or 10 and oficially go to bed around 9, but I've read that bedtime should be 7.  Really don't have a bedtime routine other than dark room, swaddle and feed.     We are also co-sleeping and I am trying to transition out of that by putting her in the PNP for a daytime nap.

I also read that I shouldn't take her on errands after 2 or 3 b/c it can be too stimulating.

I think I am trying to make too many changes at once and I'm overwhelmed.  Do you follow any of the above?  Have any suggestions?

  • I started trying to establish a bedtime routine right about a month as well.  I would give Ike a bottle around 5:30pm, then keep him awake, give him a bath around 7pm, read him a story, turn down the lights and another full bottle at 7:30pm, then straight to bed, but we don't co-sleep.  Honestly the first night he fussed/cried for 3 minutes.  I counted every second and cried right along with him (actually more i guarantee), then he fell asleep and while i know this isn't the average case, i have NEVER had a problem with him sleeping since.  He just goes to bed and talks to himself for about 5 minutes and then bam, he's asleep and he has slept through the night for the past 5 weeks (7:30pm - 5:30am).  That's how i did it, but everyone's different.  Oh and i follow the E.A.S.Y plan during the day as well, i count his diaper change just after his 7:30 bottle as A.  GL!!!
