traveling and pumping?

We are leaving in a couple days to visit our family for a week.  I want to continue to pump while we are gone because I return to work Jan 1st.  I don't want to hurt my supply( I don't get a ton when pumping anyways)  so close to going back to work.  My question.....do I freeze what I pump and fly home with it?  Has anyone done this?  Would it last 8hrs frozen, in an insulated tote, with freezer packs?

Re: traveling and pumping?

  • I have been defrosting my frozen milk lately and it takes over a day in the fridge to defrost so if you froze it, you could travel home with it but you would probably have to use it.  When I traveled over thanksgiving, I used the milk I pumped while I was there and brought home the left overs in a thermal bag with freezer packs.  We used it when we got home.  If you aren't feeding milk from bottles yet, you probably won't get to use it as it will most likely defrost on the way home.  If you bring it home cold you can always freeze it when you get home.
