Bleeding in 1st Trimester

Hey ladies!  I used to be around a lot when I was PG with my first, but I'm not back PG with #2!

I am 7w4d right now.  Right around 5 weeks, I had some very light bleeding (bright red blood) only when I wiped.  It happened just one time when I wiped.  Then it happened again two days later.  I called the OB office and they told me to stay off of my feet for a few days, which I did.  I didn't have anymore.  I had my first U/S at 6w4d and both saw and heard the heartbeat, which was exciting.

Well, I started the bleeding again on Saturday.  Again, very light, though heavier than before, and only when I wipe.  I happened a lot on Saturday, several times on Sunday, and then again this morning, but none since.  I called the OB again, and they told me again to stay off of my feet a few days until the bleeding stopped.

I guess I'm a little freaked out....should my OB be more concerned or should I be less concerned.  Did anyone have random bleeding like this and everything turn out ok???

Re: Bleeding in 1st Trimester

  • I had bleeding around the five-week mark as well and everything has been just fine. I only had it for 2 days though and it was very light.

Unfortunately there's not much your doctor can do for you but to just wait and see; if the bleeding continues, you can ask for another u/s just to verify that the pregnancy is still viable. But as long as you're not passing clots, bleeding heavily, or experiencing painful cramps or chills, chances are good that everything will be okay. GL.

  • I personally would demand bloodwork and an u/s.

  • I actually had a friend that had bleeding off and on for the first 4 months.  Everything turned out o.k but she had to see a specialist.
  • With my DS I had quite a bit of bright red bleeding at 10 weeks which started on a Sunday night.  I called my OB Monday morning and by then it had pretty much stopped so they said take it easy and go to the ER if it started back up.  It started back up Tuesday evening so I went to the ER and everything looked fine.  The only explanation they could give me is that it was possibly the placenta implanting, but I never got a clear, definite answer.  DS will be 2 in February and I never bled again after the night I went to the ER!  If it doesn't stop and your OB won't see you I would go to the ER cause it is worth the piece of mind.  Good luck!
  • I had spotting on and off from 5 to 10 wks with #1.  Some days it would be a little red, others brownish and some days none at all.  It went away around 10wks and that was it.  I have a healthy DD.  When it had first started my doctor had me do bloodwork (HCG levels) and when that turned out fine, but the spotting continued i had an ultrasound just to make sure.

With my 2nd pregnancy i had spotting that started at exactly the same time (5th week) so i didn't worry too much, but then after 3 days it got heavier, redder, and the cramps started.  i just knew i would miscarry and i did.

So, when i got pregnant again i feared seeing any blood and thank God I didn't the entire pregnancy!!  It is weird how with some pregnancies you spot and others you do.  i wish you the best!!
