NBR: Anyone own a Roomba?

I just asked my mom for one for Christmas. It seems like such a great invention, and with Adelaide crawling now, I'd love to have endlessly clean floors.

So here's the deal, I already asked for the Wii Fit, and my mom spends about $100 for my gift each year, which is super generous espeically now that I have DD. So if she already got the Wii Fit, no roomba for me. They're on sale at Target this week.

So if I buy myself one, and then get one from my mom, is it worth it to have two? I live in a split level and I'm guessing the thing isn't smart enough for stairs.

  • You don't need 2. I have had a Roomba for years, and it's my favorite purchase ever! As for stairs, it has a sensor that avoids them. Anyway, if you buy one for yourself, keep the receipt. Or better yet, wait until after Christmas and score one dirt cheap on eBay. Just make sure you read the auction carefully- some people sell re-manufactured units, so be sure yours is new.

  • We have an open floor plan and it just doesn't work for us very well. You almost need a very square room with all furniture against the walls for it to work most efficiently. It also doesn't meet my standards for clean. It leaves a lot of crap on the floor.

  • I love mine and agree that you definitely don't need two.  We have a Roomba and a Scooba and they are probably my favorite household investments.
