vomiting from coughing?

Forgive me, my DD never vomited and barely ever spit-up but for a handful of times.  My mom is watching her today and she woke up coughing and vomited all over her.  I am going to call the dr. (they are at lunch now) and maybe take her in this afternoon.  This can happen from coughing right?  She just had a bottle and unfortunately most of it came up along with some tylenol (she had it in her about 1/2 hour so maybe it worked a little)?  UGH!  I hate when they are sick.

Re: vomiting from coughing?

  • That actually happened to me when I was pg. I had these nasty coughing fits towards the end of my pregnancy that often resulted in vomiting. Poor little thing - I hope it's nothing too serious.
  • That definitely can happen from coughing.  They have such sensitive gag reflexes right now.  My son has done that a couple times because he was crying himself into a fit, started coughing and then vomited.

I would still call the dr. if she's coughing that much for that to happen.  Good luck.  Hope she feels better.

  • It can happen and, although it's not fun, it's not usually something to worry about.  I'd definitely still talk to the Dr. and see if there is something you can do for her.

  • we just got over dealing with this. We didn't take him in right away, but since he kept doing it we finally did.  He had a virus and was given antibiotics for it.

  • This has happened to DS quite a bit..when he gets into a coughing spell he will vomit a lot.  One he stops coughing he is fine.  When I call the Pedi about she informed me that that is something that can happen and there is nothing she can really do for him.  If fact once he vomited and then proceded to try and play in it.  I could just have a weird child.
