Calling CPS

I think that anyone who calls CPS on a mother who is having her kid CIO is an asshat.  CPS is already overloaded with families genuinely in need of help and with children in awful situations. Whether you like it or not (for me, NOT), but CIO is a method of sleep training advocated by many doctors and experts. Calling them to provide parenting classes to exhausted mothers who are using CIO, as alluded to in the post below, is an abuse of the system IMO.

    ITA. ?I'd love for someone to do it, though. ?I'm sure CPS would be laughing about that one for MONTHS. ??

    I guess you just have to consider the source for that one :)?

    I have to say I totally agree with you.  I did CIO with my 1st son and I may or may not with my 2nd it all depends on his personality and what works best for that child.

    Yeah. Having worked for (ontario's version of) CPS, a call about CIO in an otherwise happy household wouldn't have even made it past our intake girl. I doubt they would be too worried.

    It's situation-dependent though. A call about a newborn left to cry on its own for long periods of time? MAY have gotten someone out to meet with the parents. MAYBE. Not for punitive reasons, but like I said before - probably to try to help a stressed out family. But there would obviously have to be more to it than a one time leaving baby to cry for a bit. 

    I may be against CIO in most of its forms, but I don't think I'd burden the social services system more than it is by putting tihs on them.
