Toddlers: 24 Months+

potty training

My daughter is 19 months and I want to start training her.  What is better - an actual potty or just a seat that goes over the regular toilet?

Re: potty training

  • We are planning on using the seat that goes on the regular potty for a few reasons.

DS likes to do everything just like we do.  I dont think he would like to have a seperate potty.

I dont want to have to re-train him to go on the regular potty later on.

I dont want to have to empty and clean one of those things either, nor do I have the time with an infant.  Its a lot easier to just flush it away.

  • We got a seat for the reasons pp listed. Sometimes, we also use multiple toilets in our  house without the mini seat so that she is used to going to the bathroom in places other than our house when we don't have the seat with us.

  • We started with a chair that sits on the ground because I'd read that having their feet dangling can make BM's more difficult.

We quickly transitioned to a potty topper.  I hated having to wash out the chair bucket so much.  Turned out that the whole dangling feet thing wasn't a big issue for Dylan.

GL to you!  We started around the same time.  It was challenging at times but after some starts and stops he got it.  Hang in there!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • We bought a little potty, but my daughter is kinda scared of it, she doesnt like to sit on it. but lately she has been asking to sit on the big potty, so i think i will go buy her the seat that goes on the toliet. when i potty trained my older daughter she used the little potty with no problems at all, so i think it depends on the child.
