Teaching baby to dance

I am getting married next Oct, our daughter will be 18.5 months at the time. I'd like to teach her to do the Chicken Dance to do at our wedding as a surprise for my mom. Is there any hope of getting her to learn this dance or is she going to be too young?

Re: Teaching baby to dance

  • She'll probably be a copy cat around this age, so just start doing the chicken dance all the time, every day, like a month before then. She won't be totally perfect or anything, but she'll likely follow your lead in doing it.

  • Ditto PP.  Sammy is 19m and can do all the hand motions to the Itsy Bitsy Spider song.
  • Definitely do it around her a lot and she'll start to mimic you and copy.  DD started dancing and copying us and it's so cute.
  • Think of it less like teaching, and more like showing. The more you perform it for her, and sing the little song, the more likely she is to recognize it and mimic you. Now, will she still mimic you at a wedding with an audience? That's the question. Depends on the kid.
