FYI-Don't premeasure formula in bottle

I premeasured powdered formula in what I thought was dried bottles and left it in there overnight and the next day when I added water and gave it to the baby he spit it back out.  I then smelled the milk it had a sour smell.  I guess some moisture must have gotten into the bottle.  Either way I don't recommend premeasuring powder formula in the bottle. The formula i used was Similac.

  • Do you have any formula dispensers?  BRU has a few kinds, you can get them at Target too.

You are always supposed to add water first, then the formula since the formula thickens the water and so a 3oz bottle ends up being more than three ounces when mixed together.  If you add the powder first, you won't have the correct amount of water.

  • I always do this to get bottles ready for the sitter the next day.  I've never noticed an odor, but I'll have to check next time.
  • if you dont have containers, just put premeasure in a ziploc bag.  always put water in first!
  • We premake all of the bottles. We mix 28 oz of water with the appropriate amt. of formula and portion it out into individual bottles. There's usually a little left over (he's on 4.6 oz per bottle now).  It keeps in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.

  • Yeah you get a more accurate measurment if you measure water first and add formula. I always pre-measure water in bottles, and I have little plastic containers from target I measure the formula in. When I make a bottle I just dump formula into bottle. Or i make a few bottles in the morning and keep them in the fridge if Im in the mood.

  • my friend who also formula feeds, premeasures the preboiled water into the bottles and leaves them out on the counter, and then uses a formula dispenser that can later be a snack carrier, available at BRU or Target, athen it is easier she said at night to do feedings as well and does not have to heat the formula after as it is already room temperature.

you are also not getting the right ratio of water and formula by putting the powder in first.  I ould not do this anymore.
