Someone who makes me feel comfortable (I hate when you go places and it's those stylists who are ALL about fashion and you feel like they're judging you from the second you walk in) and who doesn't talk too much.
Honestly, the main reason I'm sticking w/ my current stylist is because she's the FIRST one who really really listens to me! Seriously, she's the first stylist who talked to me about the type of cut and the color I was envisioning and really listened and discussed it with me.. which ended up meaning this was the first ever time the cut/color turned out EXACTLY how I wanted and also the way it would work on me That's really important too. You can cut a great style and color the perfect color but if it's not what the client wanted, well, you know

someone who is just "real." I've been to plenty of snooty stylists. I used to go to a lady who was amazing and always cut my hair perfectly- she was really popular. But she was outwardly judgmental at times, phony, and kind of a b*tch- at the same time she was kind of a phony kiss-a$$. haha. Does that make sense?
So I started going to someone else. He friendly and really wants to please his clients, and he's talented of course. HTH
I left my last stylist because I thought he was insensitive. I loved my cut and color and the price was perfect! But I went to see him after I'd had DD. I'd spent 6 weeks in the hospital since I'd seen him, had a baby 11 weeks early, who was still in the ,and was in a not super happy place. He made several comments about my mood during my visit and when I left he told me that he hoped I would be in a better mood when I came back because he didn't like the *moody* me. That was the last time I saw him.

um, insensitive much??? don't blame you for leaving him!
Well, my stylist is a younger girl who I've actually known for a long time. We know a lot of the same people and I have a lot of family that goes to her as well, so we have lots to chat about (nothing bad though). She's a great stylist who likes to try new things, but she won't go crazy on you like dyeing your hair purple (unless you want her to!). I let her do whatever she wants to my hair and I always like it. She gives great recommendations on both products and styles. In fact, the last time I saw her I was thinking about taking off a couple inches and she mentioned it before I even said a word.
She just has a great personality and really likes her job. She makes me feel comfortable and always seems like she's happy to see me. She's also awesome with returning calls. My previous hairstylist would answer her phone mid-cut and it got so annoying as it took a while for her to finish up.
besides the other things mentioned, I also value honesty. if I come in with a photo of what i'd like done to my hair, I value a stylist who will look at it and say that it wont work with my hair type or face shape if that's the case.
Re: NBR What qualities keep you going back to your hairdresser?
